Adopted April 2018

We were blessed to have so many FAWbies find their homes in April!

Rescued: Sandy / Sky

Rescued: Sandy / Sky

Sandy had a horrible start in life – given by a Boerboel breeder (we assume because she turned out to not be a 100% Boerboel) to someone who we know doesn’t look after their animals, and then chained up and neglected. She was skin and bone when we uplifted her. She went to our friends at UARC to be rehabbed and, although she did well, gained a bit of weight and came out of her shell, she really struggled with…

Rags to riches: Wollie the farmyard Maltese

Rags to riches: Wollie the farmyard Maltese

Wollie was uplifted from a farm and, although he was not abused or uncared for, a farmyard is simply not the place for a fluffy dog. Around the farm is lots of bush and, without keeping him clipped short all the time (which his owners simply cannot afford), his coat was constantly matted and dirty. He was also being bullied terribly by the other farm dogs, most of which were much bigger than he is. ūüėģ His owner, who is…

Long-timer, rescue adoption: Baxter

Long-timer, rescue adoption: Baxter

Baxter and his brother, Rupert, were rescued from atrocious circumstances in 2014, where Baxter was short-chained to a rusty trailer, in the blazing heat, starved, and ignored. With loads of TLC from Uitsig ARC, where he stayed since then, Baxter blossomed into a charming little gentleman. And then he waited…and waited…and waited… For over 2 long years, Baxter waited for his forever home. He went from skin and bone to rather rotund and we appealed for a family to help…

Rags to riches: Vlekkie

Rags to riches: Vlekkie

Vlekkie was dumped in Fisantekraal in August 2015 – after hours – by people who claimed he was a stray. Although our premises were closed, fortunately, one of our volunteers was working late. As she passed by our containers, people who were waiting¬†for a taxi called her over and explained what had happened: the woman had stopped, seen that we were closed, then handed the dog to the people waiting there, saying that she’d just found him wandering on the…

Kenna the burnt kitten

Kenna the burnt kitten

Kenna and her siblings were rescued from Fisantekraal informal settlement. Kenna had been burned with boiling water and lost most of the fur on her right side. She was checked by the vet and given pain medicine so it didn’t hurt, and then she and her brothers and sister were off to foster mom. Every day, a few times a day, Kenna had calendula ointment (healing and antiseptic) applied to her burn wound. When it was finished, foster mom moved…
