Make-over for Blackie

Make-over for Blackie

This little darlin’ enjoyed an impromptu makeover by volunteer Marty. 🙂These are the ‘small’ things that make a big difference to the animals – AND are an excellent opportunity to teach the youngsters how to care for and groom a doggy like this.

Saving Snoepie

Saving Snoepie

At the end of one of our sterithons (30 November), as we were dropping off sterilised animals in Fisantekraal in the late afternoon, we were called to help a little doggy named Snoepie.

Ocean

Ocean

Ocean’s owners brought him to us for help – they didn’t know what was wrong with him! His skin was bad, he didn’t want to eat, and he was depressed. Diagnosis: sarcoptic mange.

Dino

Dino

Meet Dino, a lovely older boy who is absolutely adored by his owner. Dino lives on a farm, where he is very happy! Dino’s owner contacted one of our friends, very distressed because he seemed to be in pain and was not able to ‘toilet’ (i.e. he was constipated). She had given him a ‘stroop’ (syrup) to help but it hadn’t improved things. He even had some blood! She was terrified Dino was going to die.

Phoenix’s INCREDIBLE story

Phoenix’s INCREDIBLE story

After 4 years of waiting, our darling Phoenix was adopted. But it was an extra-special adoption… This is no ordinary home: Phoenix is one of 4 rescue doggies who live in a very special care facility which is home to 35 Alzheimers patients. Emsie, who runs the home, has a few rescue dogs herself and knows how fantastic they can be; she says that the difference these dogs make to the residents is phenomenal. Phoenix is now one of these special…

An amazing story of one kitten’s survival

An amazing story of one kitten’s survival

Liam (which means ‘strong fighter’) is a very, very special little guy. He had a tragic start in life and survived against all odds. On the morning of 4 October, one of our volunteers was contacted by her housekeeper; the lady’s kind-hearted husband had rescued a tiny kitten in Elsie’s River. His mom and siblings had been killed (allegedly by kids) that night. 🙁 How he escaped this terrible fate, we don’t know, but then he had to survive the…

Zorro the farmdog’s makeover

Zorro the farmdog’s makeover

Little Zorro lives on one of the farms we assist with. He is a happy little chappy and his owner adores him. He was in real need of a proper grooming session – farm life can be quite grubby! As much as his owner would love to have him groomed more often, finances don’t stretch that far on a farm labourers salary – and that’s where FAW comes in… We took him to our fave doggy parlour and are verygrateful…

Charlie’s happily ever after

Charlie’s happily ever after

This Pitbull-mix boy captured people’s hearts with his diary after he was rescued from a house in Fisantekraal as a skinny, neglected, frightened dog in November 2014 and, after waiting almost a year, finally went to a fantastic forever home in August 2015. 🙂 Charlie is – as you can see – blissfully happy. He has a girlfriend called Mila, adopted from HAWS, with whom he is utterly besotted! He adores his human ‘mom’ most of all, though, and loves…

Patsy

Patsy

When Patsy was rescued, she was in an appalling state. Her owners clearly didn’t care about her at all as she was emaciated and was so severely infested with ticks that her ears were completely blocked by them! It was revolting – we couldn’t imagine how awful it must have felt for her.

Zee’s happy reunion

Zee’s happy reunion

Poor little Zee was attacked by another dog in Fisantekraal and badly injured on his belly and leg. Off he went to the vet with his panicked owner who was convinced his beloved dog was going to die.
