Klipheuwel Vaccination Outreach

Press release: Fisantekraal Animal Welfare vaccinates Klipheuwel animals in need Friday 29 September 2018 marked World Rabies Day, an international awareness day aimed at educating the public about the need to vaccinate animals against this terrible disease. To mark the day, on Saturday 30 September a group of volunteers from Fisantekraal Animal Welfare (FAW) and Tygerberg Animal Hospital (TAH), executed a rabies vaccination outreach to the impoverished community of Klipheuwel informal settlement. Unfortunately, although the Western Cape was considered a rabies-free…

World Rabies Day – 130 vaccinated in Klipheuwel outreach

World Rabies Day has just passed and, to ‘celebrate’, we did an outreach in Klipheuwel yesterday – and vaccinated 130 dogs and cats against this terrible disease! We tackled the squatter camp and adjoining Cloete Drive. The outreach was a FAW and Tygerberg Animal Hospital with support from Ruan Beneke, DA ward councillor for Klipheuwel. ——————————————– A big thank you goes to TAH and Ruan, but also to every one of the AWESOME volunteers who gave hours of their time to do…

Sterithon 21 September 2016

Sterithon 21 September 2016

Today, several of our fab volunteers headed off bright and (very) early to do some sterilisations! We’ve had a fantastic year so far with steris. THANKS to some awesome vets and very hard-working volunteers. Today saw 31 animals sterilised – of which 18 were female. Bear in mind that one female dog or cat can have anything from 1 – 12 (and we’ve seen dogs with litters of 15 and 16!) babies, and consider that the best way to prevent…

Klipheuwel Outreach Sterithon 18/11/2016

Our first ever Klipheuwel Outreach Sterithon on Friday 18 November 2016 was a great success with 29 dogs being sterilised! 🙂 Consider how many pups each of those dogs could have had – and how many of those pups could have had – and so on… It adds up. So, 29 dogs is actually a lot. Klipheuwel is in desperate need of help – there is literally nothing out there – so we have added it to our ‘portfolio’. We’ve…

Mass sterithons in Fisantekraal a great success

Mass sterithons in Fisantekraal a great success

We recently held two mass sterithon outreaches in Fisantekraal itself, at the community clinic, with help from Envirovet CVC and SAVA-WC, and (at the last one) Panorama Veterinary Clinic. And we’re pleased to report that they were a smashing success! At the first (13 July) 50 animals were sterilised; at the second (30 July), 56! Since the best way to prevent future animal suffering is to spay and neuter, this makes an ENORMOUS difference. A special thanks goes to the…

Neuterthon a great success! 11/04/2015

Neuterthon a great success! 11/04/2015

Yesterday’s neuterthon was a great success! With only 2 vets & 3 vet nurses, 30 male animals were neutered in 4 hours. We did some feral kitties too – always a good thing! – and even 3 pitbulls (HOORAY!). Thanks go to: The dynamic Dr Maryke Thomas for organising this neuterthon. These things take a great deal of organisation and planning. We are very grateful to her, Dr William of TAH Plein street, and Nurses Charmaine, Caroline, and Christelle for…
