We’re excited to hear from you and help you choose a new family member!

Please get in touch at adoptions@faw.za.org or WhatsApp 078 892 7892 or complete the application form below.

All adoptions are subject to a basic home check and adoption fee. The fee covers sterilisation, vaccination & deworming up to date of adoption, microchipping (Cats are also tested for FeLV and FIV).

Please view our dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies linked below. If we don’t have what you’re looking for here, please contact us anyway as we may just have had one surrendered.

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

  1. Apply via our online application form or contact our adoption team via WhatsApp or email. If you need advice on choosing an animal or have not seen one that strikes a chord with you, let us know so that we can help you choose your new family member!
  2. Meet your pet-to-be. Most of our animals are in private foster homes and we will arrange for you to either visit them at the foster home, or to meet them off-site, depending on the situation.
  3. Home check. One of our volunteers will visit your home to ensure that, not only will the animal fit in well and be safe, but that they will be the perfect match for you. Happily-ever-afters are our goal. We follow strict Covid-19 protocols.
  4. Adoption fee and contract. If you have fallen in love and decide to adopt, it is time to sign an official adoption contract which says the animal is yours, and to pay the adoption fee (scroll down to find out what your adoption package includes).
  5. Take your new furry family member home. You will need to fetch your new pet. Remember to take a secure cat carrier for cats, and a collar and leash for dogs. We are always happy to assist you via email or phone if you have any questions or concerns.
  6. Follow up. We will get in touch within a few days – just to find out how things are going and to make sure that you are still happy with your new friend! We also welcome your updates as we love to hear how our lucky adoptees are doing.

VERY IMPORTANT

The Parties hereby agree as follows:

  1. Duties of the Adopter towards the animal/s

    • The adopter will ensure that the animal/s is/are comfortable and safe, with access to shelter.
    • The adopter undertakes to provide plenty of fresh water and food for the animal/s every day.
    • The adopter will ensure that his/her property is safe for animals. This includes but is not limited to covering/fencing pool/ponds, securing walls/fences, and removing health risks.
    • The adopter ensures that the animal/s will not be mistreated in any way, which includes but is not limited to chaining up, tying up or confining the animal/s unnecessarily.
    • The adopter ensures that the animal/s will not be left alone for long periods of time.
    • The adopter will ensure that the animal/s is/are healthy. This includes seeking veterinary treatment when necessary, vaccinating the animal/s and sterilising the animal/s.
    • If an adopter is adopting a puppy or kitten:
      • The adopter undertakes to complete the animal/s vaccinations and deworming.
      • The adopter undertakes to sterilise the animal/s at approximately 6 months of age (this is included in the adoption fee).
      • The adopter understands that vaccinations taking place after adoption will be at his/her own cost.
    • The adopter undertakes to not sell, rehome or give away the animal/s.
      • If, for any reason, the adopter is unable to keep or care for the animal/s, he/she will contact FAW for assistance.
    • The adopter ensures that the animal/s will not be surgically/cosmetically altered in any way, which includes but is not limited to tail docking, ear cropping and vocal cord removal.
      • The only exception to this clause is if there are medical reasons which have been discussed with FAW.
  1. Duties of the Adopter towards FAW:
    • The adopter will inform FAW of any change of address or contact details.
    • The adopter undertakes to allow FAW representatives to make follow-up visits to check on the animal/s.
    • The adopter undertakes to pay a once-off, non-refundable adoption fee to FAW before taking the animal/s.
    • The adopter undertakes to allow the animal/s to be microchipped before going to their permanent homes. FAW will register this.
  1. FAW warrants the following:
    • FAW will provide veterinary treatment for pre-existing conditions within a period of 7 days from the date of the agreement. The treatment will be done at a FAW-approved veterinary practice due to the welfare rates offered.
      • Should the animal/s require veterinary treatment within the 7 day period, the adopter must contact FAW immediately to arrange the treatment.
      • After the 7 day period, all veterinary fees will be at the adopter’s own cost.
      • If the adopter does not contact FAW within the 7 day period to arrange the treatment and takes the animal/s to a private veterinary practice, FAW will not be liable to pay the fees.
    • FAW will re-home the animal/s if the adopter is unable to keep the animal/s. However, the adopter must allow a reasonable period of time for FAW to find a foster, a new home or space at a shelter.
    • FAW will sterilise all adopted dogs and cats before handing them over to their adopter. If an adopted puppy or kitten is too young to be sterilised at the time of adoption, arrangements will be made to sterilise them when they are ready. The cost of the sterilisation is included in the adoption fee. This will be done at a FAW-approved veterinary practice and it is the adopter’s responsibility to bring the animal for its appointment and collect it again afterwards.

      • This includes damage or injury that is caused during the viewing of the animal/s and after the adoption.
  1. Cancellation clause
    • If the adopting party breaches any of the terms of the contract, FAW will be entitled to cancel the contract and remove the animal/s from the adopter’s property and return the animal/s to FAW.
